Lay(er) It On Me.

Jacket: Arc & Co. (c/o Lulu's.com| Sweater: Irene's Story | Shorts: Rails |
Booties: Sixty Seven (c/o Lulu's.com

Happy hump day friends! Fall slowly creeping in here! For someone like me, who is too hot with a jacket and too cold without a jacket- layers are the best way to go. I love mixing textures and I've found leather bottoms (wether it be leather shorts, pants or skirt) always look great with a sweater- something about the sexy leather with the snuggly knit- I am a fan. Debut of my new fave booties! I adore the cut outs and the ankle strap detail is too cute! Plus they are comfy! I love how that is an extra now- when did all shoes become uncomfortable? Somewhere around when I started wearing heels I guess. Hope your weeks going well!

Check Mate.

Dress: Asos | Boots: TopShop similar here

Finally got to snap a few shots in my new favorite dress! If you follow me on instagram you have probably seen me wearing this dress non-stop. You know how when you get something new that happens? Until you get something else and it falls out of favor then your wearing that all the time! These boots are one of my favorite things about Fall. They were a last minute purchase in London and I am guessing I will have them forever. Luckily for me over- the- knee boots are staying in style!

PJ Day.

Sweater: Irene's Story | Pants: Irene's Story | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Shoes: Sam Edelman

This gloomy weather seriously has me wanting to stay in my PJ's all day! This outfit was the perfect compromise- super snuggly sweater paired with these lovely relaxed trousers- also coveting these and these! A mini nude wedge with some shine keep me in the comfort zone yet add some professionalism. This is how we do Fall in California.

Go Green.

Go Green.

Hello hello! Wanted to break down one of the most recent looks I styled for "Emma Approved"- I am loving rich colors like wine and emerald green for Fall/Winter.  I went with neutrals on the bottom- nude shoes and white jeans, to accentuate the beautiful green top. You know I love gold and this necklace was the perfect cheery on top. At least that's what I like to call that final touch that really makes the outfit look put together. There is always a cherry on top of every look- now that I've said this you will realize it! For me, its usually it's sunglasses but a cool statement piece does the trick.

Xx,
Jess

PS. You can find the newest episode of "Emma Approved" featuring this look here.

Fall Fresh.

Shirt: Rails | Jeans: Zara Similar Here | Oxfords: Sam Edelman

One thing I hate: rules. Especially fashion rules. Okay, okay... I'm no Miley Cyrus when it comes to breaking fashion rules (no fishnet dresses with pasties for me, sorry) but there is one rule in particular that brings out the rebel in me: no white after labor day. How lame am I that I this is my rule I break? Is this even a rule anymore?! I'm pretty sure that it's been overthrown because the general population has realized white is in fact perfect for Fall/Winter. I paired my white skinnies with my new favorite denim shirt from Rails. One thing about these Rails shirts- you feel like you've had them for-ev-err... (note the Sandlot reference) they are so snuggly and soft, I can't seem to take them off. I'm even wearing one now as I write this, FYI. My new burgundy oxfords from Sam Edelman completed this look- perfect for my day cruising around Venice.

Rapping with Dirtbag Darling.

There are some people you just like instantly. I've gotten to know Johnie aka Miss Dirtbag Darling herself- over the last year since starting my clothing line, Mint. Johnie is a writer, editor, adventurer and just an all around cool girl. Her blog, Dirtbag Darling is an inspirational documentation of those adventures, the amazing people she meets along the way and helpful tips on how to take care yourself ie: yummy recipes and exercise tips! I have been the subject of several of Johnie's Q&A's (our first one ever here!) SO in honor of Dirtbag Darlings remodel debut yesterday, I wanted to turn the tables on Johnie and ask her a few questions! Muahahaha...

What is the inspiration behind your blog, Dirtbag Darling?
I was working for a fashion magazine out in California, and on the weekends I would take off (and take off my heels!) to explore the state: rock climbing in Yosemite, surfing at Sunset Cliffs, hiking around Santa Barbara. I would come back to the office and all the other women would say that they wished they could do those things, but they didn't know how to get started. I started hunting around for blogs that I could share with them that would get them comfortable with the idea of getting outdoors, but I couldn't find a single one that wasn't full of technical jargon and expert content—so I started my own. I'm by NO MEANS an expert on anything outdoors-related (I don't think anyone would argue otherwise if they could see me surf), so this is also a fun way to keep my skills fresh and learn new things, too.

Am I Dirtbag Darling? How do I determine this?
Heck yeah! Some sure warning signs include salty hair, chipped nail polish, bruises, sunburns, tan lines and a huge smile. A Dirtbag Darling is anyone who loves the Great Outdoors and tries to spend as much time in it as possible, whether that means you paddle out before work or you live in a van surrounded by climbing gear. She's someone constantly on the search for the next adventure.

Most recent Dirtbag Darling adventure?
A few weeks ago, nine friends and I loaded up an old school bus that we renovated into a mobile home and headed out West. We stopped at a bunch of national parks for overnight backpacking trips, rock climbing and hiking—glad we missed the government shutdown. That would have put a damper on things. Our bus did break down, though, and we had to leave it in Colorado. It had a good last trip though...RIP!

You are always posting the most inspirational photos and quotes, I have to ask which one is your fave?
Those are usually just the things that pop into my head when I'm outside doing something I love, but my favorite quote is by J.R.R. Tolkien—the man who wrote the Lord of the Rings— "Not all those who wander are lost." Oh, and, "When in doubt, vacation" (not by the man who wrote Lord of the Rings, but still good).

How did you know about my chipped polish girl?!

Emma Approved.

Blazer: Tart | Blouse: Foxcroft | Jeans: Flying Monkey | Necklace: Love, Kate
Bag: Lancaster Paris | Bow Ring: Similar here | Heels: Aldo

As I mentioned I am styling a new webseries called "Emma Approved" based on Jane Austen's famous "Emma" told from a modern day perspective, vlogging. The first episode aired yesterday! Check it out here! I will be posting outfit details from the show here on the blog along with my usual OOTDs. For this first look we went with a beautiful wine colored blazer with a cool track suit detail from Tart. The white button up really makes the color pop! As always love is in the details, gold accessories bring that confident and playful vibe to any outfit.
